Now known as an Award winning Seamstress and Greeting Card Artisit!!

So as many of you know I have been crafting for what seems like my whole life.  Every year I say I'm going to enter something in the fair and it comes and goes and I never have, until this year.  The girls had their 4-H stuff that we had to turn in so I decided that since we already had to be there I should just take my stuff too, so I did it!

We went to the fair on Saturday for the girls to participate in the fashion revue for 4-H and this is what I saw!

A BLUE ribbon attached to my Christmas Card!!  I got 1st place!!  Not only do I get that blue ribbon but I also get $7 and this is why I am an award winning greeting card artist!!

Out of 4 cards that I entered I got 2 awards.
This was in the hand stamped category and I got 2nd and $5 for this one.

Then I decided with all the sewing I have done that I would submit some of my sewing projects.  I chose 2, a pair of twirl pants, that won 2nd place...

and the blouse that I made myself that also won 2nd place.

So that is why I am now an Award winning seamstress too!!  SO EXCITING!!

I did it!!!

So I successfully finished my first ever slick fabric project!!  It was kind of a pain cuz you have to be really careful where you pin because they will leave marks and if you have to seam rip that leaves marks to so I did had to seam rip a few times but it all worked out.

The funny thing is the thing that cost the most on this dress was the zipper.  I only spent about $12 on this dress!
Here is the back with the big pretty bow.
I think this will be the pattern I will us to make Kodie's blessing dress now that I know I can sew slick fabric without ruining it!
Leave me a comment and tell me what you think!

Confession time...

So I have always liked to sew but I wasn't always that good at it and I would say I have gotten so much better in the last year and a half.  My goal is to be able to sew prom dresses for my 4 girls.  I asked a friend of mine who is an amazing seamstress if she would take me under her wing and show me all the little details I need to know.  She agreed and I have learned SO much from her.  Nothing really huge but that all the little things that make a huge difference in the way something looks when it's done.  Well I figure if I'm gonna make a prom dress I need to practice with that dang slick material that scares me to DEATH!!

So I found this pink taffeta for $2 a yard and I figure if I screw it up I won't be out too much money since the dress only takes 2 yards.  So wish me luck as I take on this new endeavour.  I'll keep you posted as if I finish it or not!

CUTE shirt from my stash

So I bought this material with nothing specific in mind.  I just really liked the fabric and for the price I didn't want it to be gone when I got around to finding something to do with it.  I had this pattern of this really cute shirt for my 9 year old.  She LOVES pink and this looks great on her!

Here is what I made!!

So here is what I made!!  The funny thing is I thought I was totally making a different dress when I cut the pattern out and then thought about it over night and then looked at the pattern this morning and this is the dress I cut out.  Still SO cute, maybe even cuter than the one I had originally picked out!
I think I'm gonna find some white leggings to put underneath it!

So I've been sewing again!! Look what I have made...

So I have been wanting to make these pillowcase dresses that everyone has been talking about so I finally took the plunge and I have to say, they're pretty fast!
Here is the one I made for the little girls.  Maddie had to wear it to church cuz she just couldn't wait to show it off.

Here is the one I made for the big girls, it's made from a king sized pillow case and is plenty long for them.  I added the little ruffle to the bottom to break up the pattern and add a little cutesy to it.

Now at the beginning of the summer I brought some fabric for some cute summer outfits for the girls and planned on sewing them cuz I was gonna have SO much time to sew this summer.  Well as you know how summer goes, it took me until yesterday to finally get it out and start sewing.  It was coming along so quickly and it was looking so cute I just had to finish it today and here it is!
Didn't it turn out SO cute?!

Pillowcase dress...

So I've been collection pillowcases for a few months now so that I could make a few of these.  The girls were going to make one of these in 4-H but we missed that day so they never got the chance.  I finally sat down and put one together.  I left it pretty plain as I thought it was cute the way it was.  I have a few more that I may embellish or try a few different styles I have found on the internet.
Unfortunately all my models are outside playing so this will just have to do.

I made a birthday pillowcase!!

So I got this idea from a friend from church.  She had been to a parenting class where they talked about making things special for your children's birthday and this is just one of the suggestions.  I also made a cute birthday wreath they suggested that you can adorn your door with for the day, week, month, whatever you choose.

So here is the pillowcase I came up with and because I have only girls I didn't have to make it unisex so it's all girlie with pink, glitter and a little eyelet!!

This picture is a little washed out but the background to the birthday fabric is light pink

Look how cute it looks on my 6 year old babies bed!!
